I finally sat down with Avatar: The Way of Water on my home theater: Denon AVR-X receiver, Klipsch Reference speakers, an SVS subwoofer and a Dolby Atmos setup with height speakers. Reading what other viewers say, the praise centres on the underwater immersion, the emotional tulkun scenes and how t…
I rewatched Avatar (2009) on my home theater this weekend: Denon AVR-X receiver, Klipsch Reference speakers, an SVS subwoofer and a Dolby Atmos layout with height speakers. Before the rewatch I read around to see what other viewers say about the sound. The common themes were the layered creature ca…

I finally sat down for a proper, lights-off rewatch of Jurassic Park on my setup, and this is my fuller, corrected take after my earlier quick impressions. My setup is a Denon AVR-X receiver, Klipsch Reference speakers, an SVS subwoofer and a Dolby Atmos layout with ceilin…
I learned the hard way that great gear in a bad room still sounds mediocre. My Klipsch Reference speakers and SVS SB-3000 subwoofer were amazing on paper, but my bare-walled room made everything echo. The good news: you don't need to renovate to fix it. Every home theater needs a centrepiece, and for me the big debate was simple: projector or TV? I've owned both, and each has won my heart in different ways. The case for a projector Nothing says "cinema" like a 120-inch image. When I first fired up my projector and played the Terminator 2: Judgment…
When I started building my home theater, the speaker layout question kept me up at night. 5.1, 7.1, or full Dolby Atmos? After living with all three in my own room, here's what I've learned. 5.1: The proven foundation A 5.1 system gives you front left, centre, front right, two surrounds and a subwo…
