Terms of Service

Last updated: April 25, 2026

Welcome to How Does It Sound ("HDIS", "we", "us", or "our"), a service operated by Akira International LLC, doing business as How Does It Sound. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of our website at howdoesitsound.io and related services.

1. Acceptance of these Terms

By accessing or using HDIS, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. Accounts

  • One account per person.
  • You are responsible for activity under your account, including content you post.
  • We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or our community guidelines.
  • Authentication is provided by Google OAuth and Apple OAuth. We do not store passwords.

3. Content you post

  • You retain ownership of the ratings, reviews, lists, and discussion comments you create on HDIS.
  • By posting content, you grant HDIS a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and aggregate your content for the purpose of operating the service.
  • You represent that your content does not infringe on third-party rights and complies with these Terms.

4. Content standards

You agree not to post content that:

  • Is spam, off-topic, or commercial solicitation outside designated areas.
  • Harasses, threatens, or targets individuals or groups.
  • Promotes hate, violence, or discrimination.
  • Infringes on copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights.
  • Impersonates another person or misrepresents your affiliation.
  • Contains malicious code, phishing links, or other security threats.

5. Moderation and enforcement

We may remove content and apply enforcement actions when content violates these Terms. Our enforcement system uses strikes:

  • 3 strikes = automatic 7-day suspension of write privileges.
  • 5 strikes = indefinite suspension. Lifting an indefinite suspension requires admin review.
  • Suspended users may continue to read content and access their account, but cannot post.
  • Each removal action is recorded and disclosed to the affected user via in-app notification.

6. Intellectual property

  • Akira International LLC owns the HDIS platform, including its design, code, and branding. "How Does It Sound" and "HDIS" are trade names used by Akira International LLC.
  • Movie metadata is provided by The Movie Database (TMDB) under their attribution requirements. HDIS is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
  • User-submitted content (ratings, reviews, lists, comments) belongs to its authors.

7. Affiliate links

HDIS contains affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. We may also earn commissions through other affiliate programs (such as Crutchfield). Affiliate links are clearly labeled. Affiliate revenue does not influence ratings or editorial content.

8. Equipment statistics

Your system profile data (speaker configuration, receiver, subwoofer, room details, equipment costs) may be aggregated and anonymized for public statistics pages. No individual attribution is shown. You can disable participation by retiring your system profile.

9. No warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available". We make no warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that movie metadata, ratings, or reviews will be accurate.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Akira International LLC and its affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms shall not exceed one hundred US dollars ($100).

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. You agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in the State of Georgia.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
