Patriots Day (2016) DTS:X Review — Clear Dialogue and Powerful Surround Sound

Patriots Day has a strong DTS:X mix. The marathon scenes make good use of the surround speakers, with the crowd and street sounds giving you a sense of being there. The sudden explosions have strong bass impact and change the mood very quickly.

The Watertown shootout stands out for its sound. Gunfire comes from different directions, and the explosions have plenty of weight. You can follow where the sounds are coming from, which adds to the tension during this scene.

Dialogue clarity is good through the quieter conversations and investigation scenes. The mix gives these moments room to breathe, so the louder scenes have more impact when they arrive. The dynamic range is one of its strengths.

For me, the surround sound and bass are the main highlights. It’s an intense home theater audio experience, with sound that supports the seriousness of the movie.
